Classroom Resources

FindingLife adventures, such as the Climb for Albinism, are designed to engage students through inspiring educational experiences. While we are privately beta testing our new engagement technologies from Mount Kilimanjaro we want to provide teachers and educators everywhere with resources for following along with the climb.

On this page you will find classroom activity plans related to albinism in Africa as well as the Climb for Albinism expedition. You are encouraged to utilize these lessons with your own students. In addition you will find Story Maps illustrating the climber’s preparation and progress These resources were contributed by participating teachers who created them for their own classroom use.

Story Maps

Story Maps combine interactive maps and 3D scenes with narrative text and rich multimedia content to weave stories that get noticed. Story maps are a powerful educational tool with many classroom possibilities. With them, students can describe places, explore change over time, recount history, investigate environmental issues, or write about virtually any other topic they choose. Story maps foster the development of strong communication skills through their ability to combine the spatial visualization of maps with text, photographs, audio, and video data.

During the Climb for Albinism we are utilizing Story Maps to allow participating classrooms to follow the climber’s progress both leading up to to the expedition and during the ascent itself. You can preview the expedition’s Story Maps and they can be found in the classroom portal here.

FindingLife is an interactive K-12 learning platform, founded by award-winning filmmaker Elia Saikaly, that combines adventure, technology, education and charitable initiatives to inspire positive change in youth.

From the safety of their teacher-supervised classrooms, students embark on real-time adventures and use social media technology to communicate and actively participate in our exciting expeditions. From the world’s tallest peaks to remote villages in Africa, students not only actively participate in unique learning opportunities, but they’re also able to make a tangible difference in the lives of others through fundraising campaigns coordinated by FindingLife.

Previous expeditions and campaigns have enabled students to raise money for a well in Kathmandu, classrooms in Kenya, an orphanage in India and most recently to build a new school in the village of Banakhu, Nepal after the 2015 Earthquake which tragically claimed over 8,000 lives.
