Teacher instructions for WebQuest:
The purpose of this WebQuest is to introduce students to the issues that people with albinism face, not only in Africa, though that is the main focus. The WebQuest is meant to be part of a journey with Elia Saikaly and his climb for albinism that takes place in September of 2018. Themes explored through the greater unit will be discrimination, perseverance, optimism, and resilience. Additional resources for this greater unit include biographies, blogging/journaling, letter writing, and more.
The WebQuest will focus on learning about albinism, the discrimination involved, and how students can be part of the solution. They will develop research skills, presentation skills, collaboration skills, and problem-solving skills. They will need to be creative in developing an awareness campaign and work on collaborating with a team. If you have a teacher website, you can post the WebQuest there or you may want to share it with them through OneDrive on office 365. You can also give it to students as a handout.
Step-by-step instructions are provided, along with rubrics, and a PowerPoint on how to create an inquiry question. I would suggest collecting student notes regularly to make sure they’re on the right track and that they’re being productive with their time (I’ve included this in the final rubric as well). If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at tmunday@sd43.bc.ca (Trina Munday).
