{"id":3027,"date":"2018-03-04T06:59:03","date_gmt":"2018-03-04T06:59:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/climbforalbinism.org\/?p=3027"},"modified":"2018-09-28T15:00:29","modified_gmt":"2018-09-28T15:00:29","slug":"women-with-albinism-to-climb-mount-kilimanjaro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/findinglife.ca\/women-with-albinism-to-climb-mount-kilimanjaro\/","title":{"rendered":"WOMEN WITH ALBINISM TO CLIMB MOUNT KILIMANJARO"},"content":{"rendered":"<section class=\"l-section wpb_row height_small\"><div class=\"l-section-h i-cf\"><div class=\"g-cols vc_row type_default valign_top\"><div class=\"vc_col-sm-12 wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\r\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column \">\r\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\r\n\t\t\t<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Six women with albinism from different countries in Africa are set to scale Mountain Kilimanjaro, the continent\u2019s highest peak as a way of fighting oppression and brutal killings against people with albinism.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Waithera added, \u201cThis will be the first time ever that women with albinism will climb the highest mountain in Africa.\u201d Born with albinism, she was abandoned by her mother soon after birth.Speaking to reporters yesterday, the team leader, Jane Waithera said they will climb the mountain on September 24, 2018. \u201cAt the moment, we are three but by September other two will come and a parent who will represent parents of people with albinism,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tanzania climber Mariam Stanford, who was the victim of a violent attack in 2008 that left her without arms, believes that climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro is an opportunity to shift perspectives from victimhood to empowerment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She said the act will also raise awareness about victims of violent attacks. \u201cBy standing at the very top of Africa, our team will send a strong message that will help educate communities, and destroy negative stereotypes that promote the prejudice of people with albinism. The World will watch and learn as our team shines,\u201d said Ms Waithera.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3028 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/climbforalbinism.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/mariam.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Founder of under \u2018The Same Sun\u2019, Peter Ash, said,<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI have a dream one day that people with albinism all across Africa will take their rightful place in every level of society and that the days of discrimination will be a faint memory.
